At home

The indoor outdoor issue
Ragdolls are the sweetest creatures....very affectionate and trusting. That's why they are not suite to lead an outdoor life....their sweet disposition impeds them to see danger coming their way: cars, dogs, other outdoor cats, etc.
Who wants to share his life with a Ragdoll must absolutely consider this fact.
In a quiet and safe home environment a Ragdoll gives it's best....being the perfect choice for families with children.
Ragdolls are also often used for Pet Therapy.

First Time
Choose a small room when you first take your kitten home. His acquaintence to other family pets and the other room's exploration must take place gradually.
The kitten will highly apreciate the warmth of a nap basket(they love the "furry" ones).
It's perfectly normal for him to feel frightened the very first time....he has just been separated by his mom and brothers and must deal with a brand new situation.
Comfort him and talk to him nicely in order to lighten stress on him.

Food
When kitty arrives home,he'll be perfecty litterbox trained. Just make sure he has well located it and don't change it's place. Sometimes 2 litterboxes(in 2 diffrent places of the house) might turn out to be a good idea.
There will hardly be any "accidents" but if this should happen don't shout at your kitten....clean it up with kitchen paper and put that into the litterbox.

Scratching Trees
The scratching tree is an essential piece of furniture for a cat house. Place it in a kitten accessible area....in order to prevent his interest in your own furniture(they often find it much more appealing).

Games
Cats have fun with so little.....practicly everything can become an interesting game in a cat's eye.
Just make sure you don't leave plastic bags or ribbons arround the house(especially if you're not in).

Grooming
Ragdoll require little maintainance.....this is due to their particular non mateing coats.
A wide teeth comb and a brush come in handy for the weekly grooming session.
You might be surprised to find out that theese moments will be very much enjoyed by your cat and will help you bound even more......enought to consider repeating it more often.

The Naming of Cats

The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.

First of all, there's the name that the family use daily,
Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo or James,
Such as Victor or Jonathan, George or Bill Bailey -
All of them sensible everyday names.

There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames:
Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter -
But all of them sensible everyday names.

But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that's peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?

Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum -
Names that never belong to more than one cat.

But above and beyond there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover -
But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.

When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name.

T.S. Eliot (from "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats")
